Homework Guide
Homework performs a key role in learning. While much can be done in school to help your child's progress, extension, revision and research work are vital to consolidate and extend knowledge.
It is no different from when you were at school, except that now, perhaps, there are more demands on youngsters' spare time. If you can ensure a quiet and appropriate place and time for homework and create an expectation that it is necessary to complete it to the best of your child's ability, you will be doing him/her a great service. Furthermore, we as teachers would encourage you to be actively involved in stimulating your child's interest by offering opportunities to extend their knowledge and understanding, by providing books or library visits, going to museums, exhibitions and watching appropriate television programmes.
Being actively involved also means overseeing the homework planner and signing it once a week, helping with difficult items and encouraging the development of skills which will underpin learning like reading, numeracy and information technology.
