Mentoring
THE MENTORING DEPARTMENT
"Mentoring provides excellent support for students of all abilities ensuring that they make positive progress and achieve well. Realistic, but challenging targets are set for students and their progress towards these are closely monitored." OFSTED 2006
Many students at Acton High have a Learning Mentor. Students benefit from something that is really popular. A Learning Mentor helps students to set targets for themselves. They give help, advice and guide them without judging them.
Learning Mentors are friendly and helpful people who use their experience, knowledge and connections to help students achieve their goals. Most mentors work on a one-to-one basis but some work in pairs or small groups.
Students can discuss anything with their Mentor. Some examples of the topics students can talk about are:
• How to keep out of trouble
• How to cope with problems at home
• How to get motivated
• How to deal with bullying
• How to study, revise and prepare for exams
• How to solve problems
• How to become a happier person
• How to control your anger
• How to improve your attendance / punctuality / organisational skills.
