MODIFIED CURRICULUM MISSION STATEMENT

" The quality of care, guidance and support is outstanding. Effective steps have been taken to reduce the number of exclusions" OFSTED 2006

The Modified Curriculum Provision is a full-time targeted resource aimed at supporting the needs of a wide variety of students. The main purpose of the provision is to provide holistic intervention in relation to individual pupils in an attempt to keep them engaged with learning. The eventual aim, in some cases, is to support students who are not attending mainstream lessons with the reintegration process.

Modified Curriculum aims to provide a flexible response to the individual needs of referred students. Students are referred by their head of year and the referrals are discussed at the Acton Inclusion Meeting which takes place on a weekly basis.

The environment within the provision is secure, supportive and friendly but challenging. The provision functions to provide specialist support for students and focuses on promoting success in accessing the curriculum and on developing positive peer and staff relationships through an ongoing dialogue.

The team supports students with a diverse range of needs by delivering individual programmes of work tailored to meet these needs and by enabling a quality of interaction that has, over a prolonged period, facilitated change in some students. The support has been predominantly targeted at Key Stage 4 students. However the provision is aiming to expand and to work more therapeutically with Key Stage 3 students to also help them enjoy school more, feel safe and achieve.
