Message from the Headteacher

The Autumn term has started well for us. Parents and students have responded well to the school's drive on uniform and all year groups look really smart.

Our focus this year is to build our students' independence as learners this means developing their learning ‘muscle' the brain using the 4Rs of a system called Building Learning Power

  • Resilence
  • Resourcefulness
  • Reflectiveness
  • Reciprocity  - (Relationships)

Year 7 have already had a full launch of this and all staff started the year with a training day to refresh our knowledge.

We're also implementing several other changes this year.  On twelve occasions during the year we will be suspending the timetable so that students and teachers can concentrate on one subject area for a full school day. Year 7 and Year 10 tutor groups are also coming to grips with having a personal tutor for every 10 students.

Exam results in the summer were up, at 35% 5+ A-C including English and Maths and our overall 5+ A-C pass rate was at 50%.  An impressive 92.8% achieved 5 A- G grades at GCSE and only one student left school without any qualifications at all.  Our SATs results improved tremendously with 70% L5+ in English 76% L5+ in Maths and 69% in Science.  This is a credit to the hard work of our students and their teachers and the support they received from their families and the committed Year 11 tutorial team.

Three weeks into term the school is buzzing.  English students have enjoyed a free visit to The Mousetrap.  Year 7 Maths has been enlivened by a visit from the Puzzle Company and they have also enjoyed an anti bullying play and workshop.  Humanities students  have visited   the Army museum and science museum, Year 8 have spent  a whole day conducting Science practical experiments and Year 10 have got off to a head start with their first assessed piece of English coursework.

Our Autumn term extra curricular programme ‘Ace of Clubs'  which offers 155 extra curricular activities for students of all ages is launching next week.  Staff are busy preparing for our Open Evening, which takes place on Tuesday 30th September and for the review day meetings for existing students and their families which take place on 26th September.

The summer holidays already seem a long way off, but we're pleased to have settles so quickly into the hurly burly of the school year.

Best Wishes
