The P.E department offers a wide variety of activities. Here are some that you will do at KS3 in Acton High.

  • Rounders
  • Rugby
  • Tennis
  • Cross - Country
  • Netball
  • Circuit Training
  • Badminton
  • Orienteering
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Athletics
  • Softball
  • Cricket
  • Volleyball

Both girls and boys do all the above sports. Twice a year you will also be fitness tested. The results are recorded and you will be able to measure your own progress. The tests include cardio - vascular endurance, muscular endurance, power, strength and flexibility.

Throughout the year there are matches, tournaments, displays, competitions and productions that you may like to take part in.

There are lots of very popular clubs at lunchtime and after school for you to extend your skills and fitness further. These include most of the sports above as well as tramplining and volleyball at various times in the year.

Clubs are run on an ‘open' basis. Students of all abilities are welcome and teams are chosen on an ‘if you train you can play' basis.

We encourage everyone to take part in lessons; even students with minor injuries and ailments can be given appropriate exercise. However if it is impossible to join in, we do require a letter from home explaining the problem; or in the event of a long term medical illness, a medical certificate is needed.

We have tremendous sports facilities at Acton High and we hope that you will make the best use of them.

In their core PE lesson at KS4, students have the choice of following one of two courses.

  1. They may wish to work towards being entered for the WJEC Entry Level Certificate. This is a practical exam based on accumulation of marks from six different activities over the two years. (There is no written aspect to the course.) Students can select new activities such as volleyball, aerobics, trampolining, etc, as well as the more conventional sports such as football, netball, basketball and hockey.
  2. Alternatively, students may wish to take the Junior Sports Leaders Award, which is one year course for those interested in teaching sport to younger children. Students are taught a variety of skills that they will need in order to organize and coach small groups in a safe and controlled way.

All students will also continue to keep a record of their fitness levels so they can evaluate and monitor their personal progress through the Key stage.
