Year 7
On Tuesday 14th October 2008, year 7 students participated in a Black History Month event with QPR called, 'Let's Kick Racism Out of Football'. A community coach (Daniel Edwards) from QPR came to the school with professional football player Mikele Leigertwood to address issues of racism in the sport and how they could potentially be tackled.
They then went outside and participated in football skills training, where they worked on their football skills, agility and endurance. This was enjoyable for all including the supporting staff who also took part. QPR also graciously gave the school a signed football which will be displayed in the school.
There were six lucky students chosen to be on the front cover of the QPR match day programme dated 18th October. QPR won 2:1 against Nottingham Forest.

Year 7 Diploma Group
On Wednesday 8th October the Year 7 Diploma Group had the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens to learn about how trees work and their importance in our lives. The trip was organised by the diploma teachers Ben Lee and Kimika Gardner in conjunction with Deonn Hailiday and Green Corridor, a charity that works to inform children of the importance of trees in urban areas.
The weather was beautiful and the students really made the most of it. They role-played the processes at work within a tree and tried to find trees from as many different countries as possible. Working in teams they tried to identify trees by touch alone and collected pieces of bark, fruit, pines cones and more to use in a follow-up art project that will take place in Chiswick House next month.
The students learned about the history of Kew Gardens and the importance of trees to our quality of life. They also made the most of the open spaces and good weather to run from point to point without ever seeming to tire. The sea-worms and sea horses in the Palm House were favourites, along with the banana tree, although the star of the show was a large lizard the boys found in the Princess Diana Glasshouse.
The day was a great success and the students' behaviour and enthusiasm made it a hugely enjoyable one for everyone involved.

London Transport Depot
On Monday 20th October a group of Year 7 students were invited down to the London Transport Depot as part of an on-going project that the school are involved in. The Year 7 students had to compile a set of questions and then got to interview London Transport worker, both past and present using the latest microphones and laptops in order to make podcasts. Not only did they meet a selection of interesting people, they also got an exclusive tour of the depot and even got to carry out their interviews on old buses, taxis and trams! The day was really enjoyable and more exciting projects will be coming soon, so watch this space!!!!
