Learning Support

The school's provision for students with special educational needs is a model of good practice." OFSTED 2006

We have a team of skilled and experienced teachers in Learning Support that links with a strong and committed pastoral team to ensure that each individual child receives appropriate support.

Acton High School is committed to raising awareness of the issues facing pupils with special educational needs. Acton High has taken a leading role in working with the Department for Children, Schools and Families to extend and spread innovation and excellence across London.

The support programmes offered to pupils are flexible and varied. After assessing a child's needs, support may include small group work, intensive literacy work or support from a teaching assistant in the classroom.

"The careful monitoring of students' academic and personal development means that learners in need of support are identified quickly and support is provided promptly." OFSTED 2006

We hold regular multi-professional meetings that ensure that we develop pupils through praise and encouragement, appropriate teaching and frequent monitoring and feedback. The Inclusion team meet weekly to implement the necessary support and to ensure that intervention is appropriate and coordinated.
