Art & Design
Key Stage 3: Year 7 & 8 Art
In year 7 Students will gain a grounding in the basics of Art, building up a vocabulary of techniques, skills and knowledge through two engaging six week projects. The focus will be on drawing skills, colour, form and tone. Pupils will start to develop research skills and learn about artists through history.
In year 8 students expand on the skills learnt in year 7 with a focus on painting and 3 dimensional sculpture. The obvious pathway from Year 8 Graphics is to opt for it at Year 9 and then do the GCSE in one year, in Year 10.

Year 9 Art
Students are introduced to what Art is all about if they opt for it at the end of Year 8. It is an opportunity to develop your drawing, painting and model making skills in preparation for the GCSE course. You will get experiment with a variety of new techniques such as print-making, acrylic painting, collage and 3D construction. You will research and write about artists from different times and cultures to gain inspiration and help with the development of your own ideas.
Students will also be assessed throughout the unit and will be awarded a Bronze or Silver Arts Award. This will look very appealing to future colleges, universities and employers as it shows you are a rounded individual with spark & talent.
Key Stage 4: What does the Art and Design GCSE course involve?
This course is taught in one year in either Y10 or Y11. It is designed for pupils who have enjoyed Art at key stage 3 and feel they have a talent and interest that can be developed. Pupils will be introduced to a wide variety of materials, techniques and processes both 2D and 3D. If you enjoy practical lessons where you learn new skills you will really enjoy Art and Design. Pupils will be encouraged to explore ideas and themes and develop these though project work, building up to a final outcome done under exam conditions. If you have seen the exciting work of GCSE pupils around the school and been inspired, then GCSE Art is the course for you.
