We are very pleased with our report which judges us to be a good school with good capacity for further improvement. You will see from the grades across the report that the judgements were consistently good in all areas. Care Support and Guidance was quite rightly recognised a strength of the school and judged to be outstanding. We were the first high school in Ealing to be inspected under the new framework and found the experience helpful in that it validated our own views of the school.
The improvement issues identified are already key strands of our school development plan as we work to raise our standards even higher. This Summer 57% of the students who spent all 5 years at Acton achieved 5 good GCSEs and 43% of these also included C or better passes in English and Maths.
The inspection team was very impressed by our students and their attitudes to learning and with the broad range of opportunities that the school provides. They also commended the number of parents who returned the survey, the results of which are contained in the report. Thank you very much for your support in helping us achieve our successful outcome.
You may be aware from the recent press coverage that the framework has changed quite considerably since the last time we were inspected in 2006. The new inspection regime is much tougher than the previous one. We were therefore particularly pleased to achieve a good judgement. This judgement places us within the top third of schools inspected so far.
The changes to the framework and the increased emphasis on raw results have caused a lot of controversy in the educational world. If you would like to read more about this a recent article from the Times Educational Supplement can be found here. (Headteachers Hitout at Brutal Ofsted)
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries or concerns relating to the OFSTED report and once again thank you for taking time to fill in the questionnaires and for all the positive feedback about the school you gave to the inspection team.
Finally, I would like to formally announce the results of our Parent Governor Election. The following parents were elected:
Mike Gardner 26
Neal Wills 20
Caroline Pryor 17
Samuel Mwaura Geddes’ Morse’ 15
Yours sincerely,
Mandy Golding
