Home Access - Free Computer & Internet Access For Eligible Families

The Government recognise the benefits to students and their families of having access to ICT in the home to support learning. Research suggests access to technology in the home can lead to improved GCSE grades, with a student previously attaining a D grade being able to achieve a B grade with effective use of technology.

They have therefore provided funds to help parents buy a computer and Internet access for the home, in a scheme called HOME ACCESS.

This HOME ACCESS grant  may be able to help you and your family if:

  • You are living with one child or more who is in Years 3 to 9

and, you get at least one of the following:

  • Free school meals for your child
  • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income support
  • Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit and an income of less than £16,040
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit (not Savings Credit)
  • Income-based Employment Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

The HOME ACCESS package includes:

  • A computer
  • One year’s Internet access
  • Service and support
  • Parental controls to keep your children safe on-line

If you are eligible, you will be able to get the HOME ACCESS package for FREE.

To get an application form, phone 0333 200 1004 (standard call rates apply). You will be sent a form, and a postage paid envelope. Fill in the form, and send off the supporting documents and you should receive a reply within 3 weeks. Further information is available at www.homeaccess.org.uk.

If you need help in applying for the HOME ACCESS package, please come to a meeting at Acton High School on Thursday, 25th March at 5.00 pm in Media 2. You will need to bring the application form and supporting documents with you.
