Year 9 Team Manage the Berrymede World Cup Football Competition
Some of our students from the year 9 girls/boys football team were invited to Berrymede Junior School in Acton to help teachers ‘Team Manage’ their annual football competition. Naomi in 9O was a coach for the afternoon and this is what she wrote about her experience:
"This term some of our year 9 football team went down to Berrymede Primary School for an afternoon of football coaching. We were each given a team to coach and I had the England team. It was like a mini world cup, you could tell by some of the children’s faces how much they wanted to win. It was so tense!
The more experience players in each team helped the players that were not as experienced. I tried to keep my team well disciplined and calm so that in between matches they could think about what they needed to do in order to get through to the finals. I told them not to worry about winning, just have fun. The players were from all different countries and it was amazing to watch them play together.
I learnt that to be a good coach you need to have faith in your team. I believe we won because we worked well together and listened to each. We were not too bothered about winning; we just wanted to enjoy the event. I believe there is no point playing a sport if you just want to win; you have to enjoy it too. You can’t win all the time but I’m just happy that my team had fun and enjoyed themselves. I’m pleased to say that in the end my team won!"
