Saatchi Gallery and the Young Masters Initiative
During this summer, 16 students across London were invited to participate in a sculpture course called The Young Masters Initiative, led by a well respected sculptor Sam Wigan.
The course was taken place at the Saatchi Gallery during the month of August. Each partner school was invited to put forward four students, aged 14-15, for the course. Participating students attended a sculpture workshops for 2 days a week at the gallery in Chelsea, during the month of August. Two Year 10 Acton High School students, Kittisaki and Jensen successfully gained a placement for this unique experience . Both students worked with a well known sculptor, Sam Wigan and Mary Ann Somerville, an international educator and consultant in experiential learning and heart centered education over this summer.
We are extremely proud of our students’ achievement and commitment.
Sam Wigan commented:
‘Your students were an absolute delight to have on The Young Masters Initiative at Saatchi Gallery this summer. Thank you so much for putting them forward for the programme. You can see their fantastic work on the website http://www.youngmasters.org, specifically on their individual galleries in the 'Young Masters' menu. We were amazed and touched by wisdom & creativity of the students, the speed with which they learned, and the demonstrations of their faith in and willingness to share their expression.’
Once again, we are very proud of our school specialism and we look forward to continue contributing to our local community.
