English Classes For Speakers Of Other Languages

Acton High School started English lessons for parents and carers of students at Acton High School, Berrymede Infant and Junior School and South Acton Children’s Centre this half term.

The classes run from 9.15am until 11.15am every Wednesday and focus on helping parents to improve their written and spoken English. There is also a class running on Thursdays from 9.15 am – 11.15am at Berrymede Junior School.

Year 8 Focus Group

On Monday 14th October 2011 Breis (pronounced Breeze) a Nigerian Hip Hop Rap artist and writer performed a selection of his poetry to inspire Year 11 to achieve great things.

On Tuesday 11th October 2011, ten Ealing councillors visited Acton High School to give students a unique opportunity to ask them questions about their role and their position on local political issues.

Year 8 Coffee Morning

Thank you very much to all the parents who attended the Coffee Morning on Friday 7th October 2011.

It was insightful and yet successful in terms of the feedback we gained from parents. We would like to do this on a half term basis so the next date for your diaries will be Friday 9th December 2011 at 9.15 - 10.45am. We would also like parents to bring along any goodies they might like to share (food from your country).

Choir Nominated for ROAR Award

Acton High School’s Choir was invited to perform at the Ealing Town hall on Friday 23rd September 2011; on arrival we discovered that the Choir had in fact been nominated for an award in the Outstanding Contribution of a group category, being recognised or supported by Ealing Council.

Ambassadors Teambuilding

AHS Ambassadors Teambuilding Programme continues this year – kick starting with a ‘Bushcraft’ Activity that took place on the 8th & 9th of September 2011. Some of our Year 10 & Year 11 Ambassadors experienced a night of camping out under the stars in the heart of Paddock Woods in Kent.

The launch of our new uniform has been such a great success. The new uniform has proved so popular that many students are buying it now as they are keen to have the new, smarter look, despite the fact that it is not yet compulsory for the whole school.

Family Learning

At Acton High School, we offer free Saturday family learning workshops. The idea of these workshops is to allow your family to learn together through fun and practical workshops. All workshops are free and run on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. There is no commitment of turning up to all of the sessions; we simply want you to enjoy a fun Saturday with your child through learning new things together.

New Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers

WELCOME TO OUR NEW HEADTEACHER, ANDY SIEVEWRIGHT

On behalf of the School’s Governors I am very pleased to welcome Andy Sievewright who has now started as our new Headteacher.

Andy comes from Hamilton in Scotland, attended Glasgow University, has a PhD in American Literature and is a keen footballer. He has previously taught for several years in north London and held senior school leadership roles in London and Hertfordshire. He was appointed from a strong field of candidates.

Acton High School’s governing body won the ‘Outstanding Full Governing Body’ award. They were recognised for the dedication and support they have given to the senior leadership team and the wider school following the recent early retirement of the headteacher.
