Leader of the Council, Julian Bell's Visit
Julian Bell, the leader of the council visited the school on 14th July. He was joined by Guy Fiegehen, the chair of Governors and was shown around the school by Neville Lassiter and some KS3 student’s leaders. He was very impressed with the school and the quality of learning and teaching he saw.

Mentoring Programme
Somali Boys Mentoring Programme:
A cohort of Year 8 boys have been taking part in an ongoing programme designed specifically for our Somali boys. Mr Coyle and Mr Archer have been working alongside two ex students: Mohamoud Yusuf and Ahmed Abdullahi.

This year’s Acton Carnival took place on Saturday 9th July 2011, with the theme for this year’s event being ‘reunion.’

Japanese School Visit
On Tuesday 5th July 2011, Acton High School students visited the Japanese School to experience Japanese Culture. Acton High School has had a very strong link with the Japanese School for more than 20 years and have exchanged a number of visits.

Media Awards 2011
Once again, Acton High School celebrated a huge amount of talent and creativity in the annual Media Awards ceremony on Wednesday 6th July 2011. There was a magnificent turnout from students, staff and parents so thanks go to all who attended and walked the red carpet for their photographs!

Wimbledon 2011
Each year the PE Department apply to purchase tickets to Wimbledon through the schools ballot. This year we were successful and were able to buy 10 tickets for No.2 Court. As a department, when we are able to purchase tickets to events like this we try to use them to reward students who have behaved/performed above expectations in our subject area.

Trip to Cybernetics Dept at Reading University
On Friday the 24th of June, 11 students from AHS visited Reading University’s Cybernetics and Computing Depts.
These students have all been identified as Gifted and Talented in ICT, and most are sitting an early entry A Level next year in Computing. The students were accompanied by Mr Mothada who runs the Gifted and Talented ICT Club, and Mr Jones from the Science Dept.

The Ealing Readers' Award 2011
The Readers’ Panels from Ealing Schools met at Greenford High School to consider the shortlist of nine books put forward by students for the Ealing Readers’ Award. Each school gave a Presentation on a book and the final vote was taken by the students, to select the book that Ealing students think is the best read of 2010 – Charlie Higson’s ‘The Dead’.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
At Acton High School we offer students the option to begin their Bronze Award during year 10. We will then be able to direct them to the appropriate avenues to pursue the Award further if they so wish.
On the weekend of the 11th/12th June, 14 year 10 students undertook their Bronze Practice Expedition in the Chiltern Hills just North West of London.

Futsal Finals
Acton High School Under 16 girls followed on from their recent Middlesex cup success with a stunning display in Sunday’s South East England regional futsal finals. The Acton girls triumphed over opponents West London Futsal and Ruislip’s Bishop Ramsey school.

Oxford Trip
On 12th May 2011 a group of Maths gifted and talented students from Year 10 visited the prestigious Oxford University; as the oldest University in the English-speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution, which remains at the forefront of centres of learning, teaching and research.
